Dans, I think I might have terminal fujoshi brainrot.

I was sitting on the bus, checking the latest college football standings, when it suddenly dawned on me that the reason why I latched onto this is that Berkeley/Stanford has all the hallmarks of my favorite ship dynamic - enemies/rivals who hate each other but will also always have each other's backs, and maybe this whole 'hate' thing is actually mostly performative in the first place.

I'm distraught. I really am too predictable.

This fanfic author seems to be under the impression that a period lasts for one day.

They’ve set it in the 1970s, in the UK, and keep trying to add 1970s British flavour, despite being a (presumably?) young American. So the woman currently *having* her period refers to it as her “devil’s day” (?!), then makes fun of the young man who doesn’t realise what she means, and then when she starts explaining that it’s her period and what that is he responds, “Oh, of course, the 28th day of your cycle”.

Very young or man? Or, possibly, living with early onset puberty blockers and has never had a period? Man is probably most likely.

Was digging through my AO3 black history when I discovered that apparently one of the authors I liked is married to the Teixacalaan author. Debating if I should pick it up just to continue my trend of reading authors I discovered through Homestuck fanfiction.

Am not Gen Z but I have still fallen for the campaign. I now own merch of the cute train station hawk girl, except it turns out that he's actually a train station hawk twink. Oops.

I AM BEGGING THIS AUTHOR TO LOOK WORDS UP BEFORE USING THEM.

They use “aghast” in place of “horror” constantly, as a noun (“the aghast of the situation hit him). They use “droll” in place of “dull”. They claim to have two levels of beta reader making corrections. Please, somebody, use the dictionary.

Shocking swerve in a fic! What?

Things currently mystifying me in this fanfiction I'm reading:

- why is a three-year-old going to elementary school
- why are they going to elementary school only six months out of every year
- why does ice cream cost $40
- why is someone going through puberty at 25
- why does this lemon chicken recipe (serves three) call for 1/4 cup of lemon zest
- why is this house covered in lead paint treated as a good thing
- actually maybe that last part explains everything else about this story

Has anyone run into this weird copypasta comment/DM?

"Hi Author, I hope you're fine. I'm [Name] . I read ([Fic]) and loved it. I'm thinking about enhancing it with some art."

I've received this exact comment verbatim on fics in different fandoms from at least three different accounts with the same threadbare bio listing their socials but zero apparent fandom history.

My thought is it's some AI bot thing or a scam but I'm not really sure what's going on. Any dan encountered this?

Do you ever read a really good AU and get sad it's not canon? Like, I need some executive to milk this for all it's got with the tenacity of whoever's directing Sony's Marvel movie license. I need so many continuations of it that it'll turn into slop and stop haunting my brain rent-free.

I'm reading a modern AU where one of the characters becomes 'a lawyer who sues businesses for ADA non-compliance.' Pretty sure the author meant it in a 'look, this character cares about people with disabilities!' way, but I can't stop laughing because I'm just imagining the guy as one of those ambulance chasers who shake down small businesses for using a bad premade Shopify layout.

I'm somewhere in the dregs of AO3 at this point, and this 'fic I'm reading is clearly written by someone who learned English exclusively from social media. It's sort of a grimy noir detective story, but one of the criminals is like 'no worries, I'm mutuals with the police commissioner' and someone else says they shouldn't commit murder because it's 'cancellable.'

Casually browsing some dead dove tags on AO3 and I spot a 'fic about sex slavery that includes in the description 'if you are being human trafficked, here are some hotlines you can call... [phone number]'
