Not quiiiiiite the same (ie: nothing alike), but I always get distracted by potential AUs of my own stuff when I'm meant to be writing the real timeline. Everyone starts time-travelling and getting in trouble with the mafia and having secret children and so on.

(But as for your situation, I don't think anyone in my fandom makes anything good enough for that. Glad you've found stuff!)

It's funny you said that, because the AU I was reading was originally a canon-compliant-ish oneshot and then the author went 'Wait, this one hypothetical I mentioned would actually be really cool?' and wrote an entire offshoot AU about it.

(The trick is having bad taste and low standards. I tend towards large fandoms where people are mostly writing original fiction with character names slapped on.)
