Anyways, Florida State - the team that sued their conference because they thought they were too good for it - just lost their third game in a row, this time against a non-conference team that they paid $1.3 million to play against. This brings their record to 0-3.

Next week, they play Berkeley. Berkeley is inexplicably 3-0, despite the best efforts of its students and staff. In their last game, the university chancellor personally handed out hundreds of tickets to students, only for those same students to turn around and sabotage their own team by earning them not one but two penalties for bad fan behavior. Looking forward to how Berkeley somehow manages to throw this, right as the hype is on for us.

As I was reading, I was so confused by this "only for those same students to turn around and sabotage their own team", wondering how they could have any effect. Then reached "two penalties for bad fan behavior", and after a moment of intense wtf, remembered it was college sport. :P So TIL that I subconsciously have a strong sense of how rules should work in pro football, what counts as acceptable punishment and what doesn't. Huh.

Not sure if I should congratulate you on your pro football knowledge or offer my condolences!

Apparently, a similar situation actually happened at Bills vs. Dolphins a few years ago - the stadium was snowed in and the fans 'celebrated' by chucking snowballs at the opposing team. Referees threatened to penalize the home team if the pelting continued, but it turned out there was no rule that would justify that - and of course, some fans of the away team immediately started throwing snowballs at their own team in hopes it would give them an advantage. Football really is a ridiculous sport.

Update: In the battle between Florida State (0-3 this season) and Berkeley (0-3 against winless opponents), Berkeley reigns supreme (at losing).
