Huh, more restrictions on commenting on AO3. Having a comment rate limit probably won't change things for readers, but it'll be rough for authors who reply to all their comments since the limit seems fairly low right now - people on FFA were hitting it after 5-7 short comments?

Huh. I doubt this would affect me (I do reply to all comments, but takes a while to write replies), but I'm surprised there's this much spam. I've seen none! Maybe someone on site team got excited to see they had loads of new comments on their fic, only to see it was AI spam, and got mad about it. :P

I'm guessing the spambots are searching popular fandoms by last updated at, but I haven't seen any in my megafandoms. Either authors are really good at deleting spam comments fast or my megafandoms are simply not mega enough to monetize!

Works defaulting to only archive users being allowed to comment was the anti-spam change that really hit me hard as a reader. Can't hide behind anonymity when commenting on weird smut now :(

I was gonna suggest an alt called I_LIKE_WEIRD_SMUT or something similarly good at setting expectations, but then idk how ao3 can be having such spam problems when it's such a hassle to *make* an alt.

Why did I always get kudos from COMMENT_ME_JAPANESE_TITS? Why did I never get kudos from Carl Gauss? What's a girl got to do to attract a studly mathematician to her principia-mathematica-omegaverse fanfic? I'd proved the number 4 at least twenty times! But no, Gauss and his cute flowery signature were nowhere to be seen! Just me, the Hell Hounds, and the stalwart tit-requester. Typical.
