Spotted in the author's note for a fic I was attempting to read:

I didn't really need more evidence that people in this fandom don't care about canon, but I feel like this is still a new low.

Basically, they were writing a canon divergence AU, except apparently some people complained that they didn't understand what was going on because they never watched the source material, so now the author is just word-for-word summarizing episodes with one-line changes. It's been 80k words! They haven't even gotten to the actual canon divergence event because it's apparently necessary to recap the entire series first!

...so not all that different from your typical canon divergence AU, really.
