Freezer wouldn't close. Needed defrosting, didn't have time to do it properly. Whacked it with a knife until there was nothing more I could do; cut my finger. Tried holding a match to the ice; burned my finger and it just turned the ice black (??!). Tried holding a cup of hot water to the ice. Hurt my finger. And it did nothing. Put salt on the ice; seasoned my finger (though I heard crackling noises!). Partner hit the ice with a hammer. Eventually got the door closed. Sorry, neighbors.

(Would definitely NOT recommend this approach with a normal freezer. Apparently one should defrost when it has 5mm depth of ice. Ours has at least 15cm...)

My less eventful cooling appliance story: I found an unopened packet of dry ramen in the fridge. Don't remember putting it there myself. No clue why anyone else would have.

:D I'm relieved! I was considering shoving a heavy weight against the freezer door so it'd stay closed for the night. There's not a lot in there that needs eating, but would rather not waste the stuff that *is* there. Have since spent the evening wandering around the net and discovering all the ways my methods were stupid and dangerous. :D Door closes now tho. Tomorrow we plan to ignore all advice and defrost it with a hairdryer. People online are panicking about the proximity to water, but I don't see the issue if you're not like jamming the hairdryer in there? I mean, you use it on *wet* hair...

Haha, an acquaintance of mine knew a guy who managed to burn microwave ramen!

And the guy was studying at Oxford uni at the time. (Apparently he was super rich and probably had servants at home xD)

LOL! How on earth does one burn microwave ramen? Is it even hot enough in there?

I have no idea! I want to say he put it in there without any water, but I may be combining that with the time a friend left a pan of pasta on the stove for hours and the water evaporated and it set on fire.

Or we have an accident-prone friend in common. She once injured herself trying to eat a wild prickly pear she found at the side of the road. If that story sounds familiar we can safely assume it's the same person. xD

Still took like 3 hours. I was hoping to get away with keeping the ice cream in the fridge in the meantime, but it took too long and I had to drink it. Also hope that refreezing partially defrosted chips doesn't kill me. =D Decided not to take a chance on the quorn. That stuff is spooky enough.

But it's like I have a new freezer! I'm so proud of myself! There was a shelf with so much ice that we couldn't fit any food, before.

Now we can stock it with froooooozen desserrrrrts awwwwww yeahhhhhh
