ayrt They replaced the filling with the jello shot! Which then made the cookies kind of soggy! And who wants a soggy Oreo with jello that burns as it goes down??

Ayrt

Oh my god that is SO much worse than what I was picturing! I thought you meant a shotglass of... spicy jello... with little crunchy bits. Also does that mean their hands were all over each individual oreo? Ewwww...

ayrt Right??? I suppose whoever made them could have used gloves, not that I'm so worried about that part - one of the benefits of this volunteer gig is that we've all been vaccinated for months now. But they were deffo gross. I only tried one because it seemed so weird I had to!

:D Yeah I'm always wary of food people bring in, though I do just eat it anyway-- I just know my own kitchen is probably harboring sapient life on the countertops by now! xD Though I think I'm worse than most. But still, things that look like they must have involved a lot of handling after being cooked will always make me nervous; they have to taste really good for me to decide that clearly this is a sign that they're hygienic. :P Congrats for trying the oreo; you now know you should avoid them from now on, and everyone here will benefit from the knowledge gained by your sacrifice!

ayrt Well, my bravery in trying food items is limited mostly to weird desserts - and even then, I gave the grapes in mayo and brown sugar a pass. D:

I wondered where on earth that... delicacy... had originated. Seems to be 100% American!

ayrt You're right on there, haha. There's lots of horrible recipes like that in cookbooks from the 1950s. (Am I the only American here? Feels like you're all from the other side of the pond. xD)

Nope!

My mother grew up in America in the 50s, and her mother had a schedule for meals which repeated every week. Faced with such mediocrity, my mother never really learned how to cook, and I had to learn from scratch, essentially. I'm proudly a much better cook than either parent now. (My mother is a fantastic baker, though. Bread, cake, and cookies are traditions which survived the 50s intact. We made Lebkuchen from a recipe which survived from the old country!)

ayrt Yes to the baking! My mom was also a fantastic baker, despite having gone through some real deserts of culinary eras. xD The old Betty Crocker cookbook has a certain edition that's really good for baking in particular.

Another American here! You can occasionally ID us when we (mis)spell words like "flavor". xD
