Date: 2021-05-11 04:08 am (UTC)My mother grew up in America in the 50s, and her mother had a schedule for meals which repeated every week. Faced with such mediocrity, my mother never really learned how to cook, and I had to learn from scratch, essentially. I'm proudly a much better cook than either parent now. (My mother is a fantastic baker, though. Bread, cake, and cookies are traditions which survived the 50s intact. We made Lebkuchen from a recipe which survived from the old country!)
