"Cloud, please, we don't have time for this!" Tifa gazed up at the ball of flame. "Everyone is going to die unless--"
"The secret fan space is a pan-fandom, feminist-friendly, anonymous board, which means anyone is free to speak her mind. Sick of gender drama? Sick of antishippers? Then you've found the right place! And what's more--"
"Cloud, we need to go, now!" Tifa paused as a shadow appeared above. "What...?" Her eyes widened. The black cape was unmistakeable. "Sephiroth?!"
"Hello..." Sephiroth floated down to the ground. "Did I hear something about a fandom space where I can ship whomever I please?"
"You did!" said Cloud, and the two men frenched.

(Originally I wrote this as Tifa being ooc, but it felt too rude to her to cast *Cloud* as the sane one, lol).

I adore Cloud, but Cloud is never the sane one. Unless he's talking to Reeve, in which case, maaaybe.

Date: 2021-04-23 12:49 pm (UTC)Yeah, I think if you have, like, Cloud, Barret and Yuffie, Cloud will come out of it looking alright. But Tifa may be the sanest character in that game... or Red. I just remember where you find Vincent, and he's all "I had to atone for my sins!!!", and Tifa's just like, "So you... slept? That's weird."

Date: 2021-04-23 05:23 pm (UTC)You may right about Barret, either way. I was weighing his down-to-earth moments against his extreme ones, then remembered he literally attached a gun to his arm. At the same time he adopted Marlene! Pretty sure we're not *supposed to* examine that too closely, both because it's a gun-hand and because it's a metaphor for how he fights to protect the future but can't let go of the past or something profound like that. And there really IS something profound and interesting about that! Except it goes into funny/sad/absurd territory once you think about how long-lasting and intense his revenge thing is, and contrast with how he's a good dad. I wish I had any writing skill at all; there are so many directions one could go with a fic about him raising Marlene without ever finding a more functional (or non-lethal) prosthetic than a gun. How many times did he have to go "yeah, this is fine" instead of "y'know what would be handy right now?"
However! Maybe he did have a prosthetic hand? The guns could be swapped out without a medical procedure. Maybe the gun attachment was only installed when he expected he might need it. Well, now I've gone down another rabbit hole.

I don't even know what to do with the rest of this (aside from giggle every few months about how they gave Barret A HAMMER HAND). Barret's mid-conversation screaming comes off so much better in a low-poly videogame than it does in a serious-toned novella. How could they not see that?? Maybe it's a translation thing? Anyway, couldn't deal with the Compilation when it started coming out. Still can't XD

tbh I think Yuffie is weird for a 16 yr old, but yeah, I just meant 'put them in a scene together; who's behaving the weirdest?', really, nothing deeper. I agree that if you did an MRI or something, Cloud's would be the one where the pattern was shaped like a cactuar or some shit. xD
Yeah, my brain went straight to Barret SHOOTING BULLETS IN RANDOM DIRECTIONS whenever he gets pissed off. I actually wanted to write a fic about him raising Marlene! I saw someone else write a shitty one so it inspired me, lol. But never got round to it. I pictured him as getting the gun-arm as a spur-of-the-moment thing, and then thinking "maybe that wasn't so wise..." but not having the cash to fix it-- but then I tend to write comedy. Not that it's good comedy. But that is a great idea.

WOW, that fandom page. I can't believe Barret wasn't satisfied with a fucking SHOVEL for an ARM!!! What was he thinking?! :0
(Seriously, though, sometimes I wonder if the guy(s) who wrote those novellas were even on the same planet as the rest of us. I couldn't get through some of them. And I can't remember which ones I could get through.)
