A space to chat fandom! Anon!

Got a WIP you're excited about? Want to rave about your fave? Or is your fandom absolutely in love with a character who detracts from every scene they bumble into, and you need somewhere to vent? You're in the right place!

Reading Captive Prince, apparently. Not my thing at all and reading the summary made me cringe at the id, but I feel like I ought to read it just to spite the misogynists who think women should only write wholesome books after consulting with men, or better yet, should shut up entirely.

I wondered about attempting a readalong but it's so bad, I don't think I can make it through. But I will always support the author's right to write her terrible books with no more censure than men get for theirs.

TBQH...unless you're REALLY into thousands of pages of endless politics, woobie asshole ice princes, and firm seme/uke dynamics, don't bother. I got through the first part when she was writing it online and thought it was entertaining enough, but then it got taken over by all of the above. I hate pointlessly cruel asshole ice prince/sses, and the author LOVES them - like, JFC, IDC about this dude's woobie incest backstory when he's actively enslaving the love interest! And the love interest only matters because he has the healing cock to heal ice prince's trauma! Ughhhh anyway I really ended up hating it, LOL. And the author doesn't ~identify as a woman anymore, so she neatly escaped that dreaded fujo criticism anyway.

Yeah, the excerpts I read were very bad. Which did make it lulzier that some guy was all "you are oppressing me with your book, stop writing this at once!" Yeah ok so this is the book where a prince kidnaps another prince, but then loses his captive when his drink is spiked with a drug that is so arousing he can't move. The book that starts with a fever dream of the author's sexual fantasies with rows of chained up men and is clearly written for other women into the same thing. You're right, random dude, people are taking this seriously as Representation. They think this is your life, random dude. They read this and they think of you, personally.

I could get into politics, but I doubt this book would do it well. I'm kinda in awe at the author's confidence sending it out under her real name, though, gotta say. She had conversations with an editor she knew in person about the contents. Takes guts. xD

oh man I read the whole thing (all 3 books!!) and hated it and I'm not sure why I put myself through it. I think I kept hoping there would be more smut. Was there smut? I think there might have been but it was no good? I'll just stick to fic.

The excerpts I saw had a lot of building up to smut without actual smut. A bunch of men standing around chained up in jewelled collars with other men looking at them hungrily and everyone getting erections all over the place. All a bit too reminiscent of reddit for me.
