I want to garden. My next-door neighbor is constantly on his balcony. So I've been staying indoors. :/ Currently most of my plants are weeds; considering ordering loads of seeds online
before its too late, and planting them in the dead of night or something. But I need to decide soon!

I also kind of want to recycle my garden waste, but I have no room for a big compost bin. I'm not sure if I just have to bite the bullet and chuck all the dead plants, or if there's some way I can let the waste decompose into soil without things smelling terrible out there. I was considering just getting some big plant pots and dumping the dead plants into them along with some soil. If it works in a forest, it should work for me, right?

I think I'm just going to buy lots of seeds online, tonight, and wing it.

Trying to choose seeds, getting overwhelmed, halp! Normally I just grab packets off the shelf but doing it online feels much more pressurey...

Also, is it really weird to buy soil online? Feels like I'm ordering a jar of dirt.

Nah, I've bought all sorts of potting material online. Def cheaper if you can get it in person, though.

Thanks! I ended up buying a small bag online and it was kinda dear... BUT tbf I don't drive. So normally I walk to the garden center, pick up as much as I can carry (which is very little because I am weak), and if I need a lot of compost, I have to spread the purchases over several trips. So online looked more practical for me, but I was scared I had no idea how big a 40l bag actually was and I'd end up with an enormous, unmoveable bag of soil sat outside my house forever. So I ordered a 10L bag instead and will probably kick myself for it. xD

Ended up just buying LOADS; figured I could use them next year if it's a ludicrous amount.

Cleared out sooooo many old dead weeds. I'm too softhearted with gardening; I can never get rid of weeds when they're alive because they're alive! They've made it this far! How could I kill them?! And I never want to throw away garden waste because I feel like it ought to be going back into the earth in a cycle (though a landfill would also be earth, so). So I just end up with a miserable-looking garden. Soooo got some pots just for the waste, and maybe something will figure out how to grow on it. Probably more weeds.

Yeah, clearing weeds! It'll compost itself eventually! I lazily threw a small pile of weeds onto the driveway one year. Next year (I know, I know >_>) there was a small pile of soil with dandelions.

Yeah, I've been meaning to clear some of these for a couple of years so I'm not judging! I also saw a slug out there. I should have sent it packing but I was just like "oh hi!", and now that slug will eat all my plants, I guess

I get an occasional slug, too. Also not planning to do anything about it unless there's suddenly more of them. Slugs are allowed, but they're not allowed to take over

I was nervous because it was hanging out near my rose plant, which seems quite fragile. It's small and the year I got it, it lost nearly every leaf to disease. Most of the plants in the garden are currently weeds, so if it munches its way through those, it's fine, but it seemed like it might be heading for the one most vulnerable plant in the garden! So... I hope I don't regret it. The people I know irl who garden are ruthless with pests; one slug and it's blue pellets everywhere. While I'm like, "can I get you anything to drink, monsieur?".

Ah, I've never had anything as fragile as roses before. Most of my garden is pretty weeds/wildflowers, too, plus some bulbs that need almost no care. The first year I was here, I didn't know you needed to water outdoor plants. The sky does that, right? Several of the plants disagreed.

My almost-zero-maintenance approach seems to be working with the lawn, though. It's all short weeds and wild violets, and doesn't need more than the occasional mow. Luckily the neighbors don't seem to mind!

Heh, my garden is annoying because one side is too wet and the other too dry, so half the plants end up swimming while the other half burn. It's hard to predict when things need watering so I just do it by eye and end up going out every day to water *something*. In the summer it's a pain and it can take aaaaages; I don't have a proper watering can and can't use a hose or anything like that. So I have to go in and out with a mug or similar. I should order a watering can, really, but I always forget. Maybe I can reuse a cola bottle next time I buy one of those 2l things...

The rose is ok, though. It gets sick easily, but there doesn't seem to be much I can do about that, and it keeps going. It doesn't seem too fussy about water or temperature. I give it some coffee grounds sometimes, since I've heard roses like them, but I don't know if that makes any difference.

Beyond the watering, there's not much maintenance; idk how to take care of anything so the plants either live or they die and I replace them. :P Over time, I figure they'll end up selectively bred to be the hardiest plants ever.
