I'm tempted to start trying to make some Pokemon fangames. At the same time, I don't really want to spend half my life debugging or dealing with Godot.

Godot is fun! Haven't done very much with it but it's easy to deal with compared with most things I've used. Hobby games dev is 99% debugging though, ime, so no help there.
