Been trying to gather up what remains of my brain cells and type something up about the Arknights five-year anniversary story event, which finally explains why our player character has amnesia and proceeds to tear out our heart while we're at it, but it's just too hard without infodumping the entire goddamn lore of this entire goddamn game.

All I wanted to do was collect cute waifus and instead my character just can't stop committing war crimes. Woe is me.

Well, we didn't get a trailer for Arknights Endfield at TGA yesterday after months of radio silence, so some leaker took matters into their own hands and released a bunch of character designs.

I'm ... extremely whelmed? We have a bunch of anime girls, the lead artist's enduring armpit fetish, and three characters who are directly copied from the main game - which is a little odd, considering Endfield is supposed to be set ~500 years in the future. Part of Arknights' appeal is the tacticool aesthetic, but this is tactisexy at best. Detached sleeves and cut-outs are a bit of a thing in 3D gacha games because they're easier to animate, but I'm so damn tired of seeing them everywhere.

No stand-out male characters, either, despite Arknights itself having a fairly strong male cast. I do like the panda, though. Just hoping this isn't a sign Arknights isn't moving towards the male-only audience that games like Snowbreak and Azur Lane court, because I sure as hell don't want to hear about gamers rioting over 'NTR' every time a female character talks to a male character.

Full splash arts look a lot better than the leaked cut-in images, but they still look really same-y. I'm also side-eying that bunny girl's pose hard.

But really I'm just here for more Starset music in the trailer. God bless Starset.

Latest iteration of Arknights roguelike has a stage that's named 'Arial Assault' instead of 'Aerial Assault.' As a former typesetter I am indeed being personally attacked by a font.

Look at him! He's so handsome and majestic. Then you read the skin description and it's just his grandma judging him for wasting perfectly good scrap metal on dressing up like a chuunibyou and telling him he needs to work on his craftsmanship.

Then there's the skill animations. His summons are dancing cats! They're manning tiny, cat-sized cannons! Absolutely adorable. Now I just have to wait six months for this to hit global servers, and maybe actually pull Stainless in the meantime because a skin is no good to me if I don't have the character to put it on, no matter how cute it is.
