Re: Ask Meme - Cosy recs
Date: 2024-10-02 01:49 am (UTC)If you're willing to consider anime, I highly recommend Frieren at the Funeral. Very little fanservice, beautiful character animation, a great soundtrack, and a quiet and touching story about learning how to live life to its fullest. You might also enjoy Mushishi, which is another quiet and introspective series about supernatural events, or Delicious in Dungeon, which is more of a cooking show disguised as a dungeon crawl.
In the manga department, you might enjoy Ancient Magus Bride. I'm hesitant to recommend this series because it really declines once Chise goes to Magic College, but the early arcs and art has an atmosphere to it no other series has ever captured for me. Obligatory content warning for 'girl is purchased as slavewife by skeleton in trenchcoat.' I swear it's not as bad as it sounds.
My friend would also like me to recommend Witch Hat Atelier and Flying Witch, neither of which I've gotten around to reading yet. Former is more of a typical adventure story; latter is pure low-stakes slice-of-life.
For TV shows, I already shilled Meet Yourself last post, but I'll shill for it again. Outside of the major character death in Episode 1, it's a cottagecore slow burn romance that doubles as a tourism ad and features Liu Yifei in lots of pretty outfits. I'll also recommend Midnight Diner, which is more of a character drama anthology tied together by a bunch of recipes.
I actually think the closest books to what you're looking for might just be Discworld, but I'll also throw out If On a Winter's Night a Traveler for something that's not really cozy at all but weird and fun. Am probably biased because one of Calvino's other books is my personal comfort read.
That's all I can think of for now. Hope it can be of some use, dan.
