What I find extra exasperating is that I wouldn't know where to start deciding whether JCJ or PP has actually done more to help mothers in that position; paths of online and real-world influence are hard to uncover. But PP is much better at giving the impression she's doing something to help mothers. And whenever you go to a platform that helps parents, there's someone calling themselves a radfem having a go at parents, or having a go at the people running the platform. I don't think either JCJ or PP have anything to do with that, but those people make a point of describing themselves as radfem, so I think they're more likely to get associated with JCJ.

I also want more nuance and kindness in discussions myself, but I see someone without kids telling womem who do going "please don't say 'appeasers', it's underpinned by a binary discourse that also forms the foundation of political movements that have historically resulted in persecution" and I'm like "you can see why people don't think that's top priority, right?" "the manufactured time constraints are used to manipulate women into rejecting nuance; women and children have been abused for a long time so this is part of an ongoing thing" "but it's *their* kids" "there are alarming political connections between people working at organisations helping them and organisations that work against women's longterm interests" "right but it's *their* kids"

Meanwhile PP frequently acknowledges how mothers feel and expresses her support for them and her condemnation of the people who got them there.

I really do like JCJ and personally I think she and PP are both getting manipulated and pitted against each other by rightwing men. I just don't get how she can't see the elephant in the room. "The kids" aren't just a rhetorical tactic. They're actual kids. TRAs really did get between those kids and their mothers. I doubt the mothers are going to forgive. The *best* outcome is that the blame stays where it belongs.

But yeah when you then complain about people calling you "out of touch" I confess I'm like "oh come on, you are tho". And that's with me agreeing on the whole that PP has used fash rhetoric and has got the notice of a fash audience. I don't think being out of touch with some people is such a terrible thing (or avoidable) but might as well acknowledge it. JCJ targets a more diffuse group (adult women); PP targets a more specific and motivated group (parents).

Suppose there needs to be a network of leftwing mothers, with similar political positioning to Rowling.

It's like watching every complaint my mother and grandmother have about feminists happening in realtime, anyway. Maybe that's some sort of paradox. :P

Anyway I'm really relieved nothing kicked off in Glasgow; was worried I was going to look at my phone and see some mad shit that set everyone back
