"The thing about illegally breeding fire-breathing possums is that you gotta keep a bucket of water handy."

*Those fools! Fire-breathing possums are greasy; water will only feed the flames! Oh, if only I could tell them of my empire...*

Whenever I'm in a European country, I forget the word for "yes". All I can think is "hai!". I don't speak Japanese. I have no idea why that is the one preferred by my panicked brain. If I try really hard, I end up cycling through the "yes" of like 3 neighbouring countries and then give up and just nod and laugh.

I wonder if the American equivalent of this would be forgetting the regional version of you (plural) and going between 'you guys,' 'y'all,' and 'youse.'

Oh, do Americans have 'youse'? I think of it as a Scouse thing but I guess it's bc it's Irish?

Then I came across a thing that went "some UK dialects rhyme 'singer' with 'finger', while others do not", and just, ????????????, how on earth do you pronounce those so that they DON'T rhyme???? "I'm a pop singer and I wear a ring on my FONGER"?????

They still mostly rhyme, but it might be talking about this:

I think most US dialects pronounce the g in ‘finger’ the way she says not to pronounce ‘singer’.

Huh, defo no difference between the two in my accent! I just tried saying it a bunch, and although I sometimes said 'singer' closer to her way, I also said finger that way sometimes. I think on the whole I pronounce the g in both.

That's right for my pretty standard American accent. Pronouncing singer to rhyme with finger would sound prissy and pronouncing finger to rhyme with singer would sound sloppy.

Yep! I think 'youse' is mostly a Philadelphia thing. On the other side of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh folks refer to the plural you as the even more incomprehensible 'yinz.'
