I... hope not? There isn't anything else on the topic so I couldn't tell for sure. It's Abigail Shrier writing about an interview she had with a trans-identified girl's parents; maybe she took their word for it or mixed up the description of what the girl was into and what it was called.

Here's the whole paragraph in case the context helps: "Her mothers were a little unnerved by the extent to which Julie seemed to revere her new friend. After school, Julie would often meet up with Lauren, who introduced her to anime, computer-animated images of anthropomorphized creatures. 'I had no idea it was tied into this whole trans culture,' Shirley said to me. Online, Julie began to visit DeviantArt, an art-sharing website with a large transgender following and a lot of gender ideology in its comments section."

So far it's been a mix of "wait, what?" moments like this and really good points about how things are getting worse for girls. I'm not far into it yet but it's given me a lot to think about.

Just...how would anybody in this day and age think anime was all computer-animated furry shit? It's absurd that an editor wouldn't catch that and ask her to reword/specify it.

Haha oh that annoyed me so much because the rest of the book is so good but that's right near the start and makes the whole thing look highly suspect. xD

I didn't call it out specifically on ovarit because I didn't want the gencyn crowd screenshotting it, and
I figured they wouldn't find it otherwise because we all know they don't read books. But yeah that was the worst-researched bit in the whole book for me.
