Finished! Enjoyed it. It looks like it's part of a trilogy (though it definitely stands on its own since I didn't realise until I finished the book and saw the ads at the back :P), so I'll read the others sometime.

And in the meantime, must decide what to read next!

(The tone and structure can be reminiscent of a children's book, but on the whole it works, and it tends not to be too saccharin)
