Got a WIP you're excited about? Want to rave about your fave? Or is your fandom absolutely in love with a character who detracts from every scene they bumble into, and you need somewhere to vent? You're in the right place!

Haha yeah I think if I had read this without previously witnessing an IRL version I might have been able to find it sweeter, and I could see what Rowling was going for, but I just couldn't get the image out of my head. It was a particularly creepy coworker and a particularly nonplussed manager. Not the intended image! I find a lot about Strike and Robin's relationship would be a massive NOPE in real life but fun on the page (said in a spoilered comment earlier, run tf away from any boss who is like "this is more than just a job; sometimes we work weekends for no extra pay because dedication" lololol don't fall for it robin. Of course, in this story we see things from Strike's perspective so we know he means it. But irl, a boss says that, RUN. Or at least always clock out at 5pm sharp.).

Oh yeah, Strike's job is completely insane and unhealthy. But it's continually discussed throughout the series, so it's not like Robin just accepts it immediately and never pushes back.

Yeah, I've only just finished the second book so wondering if she'll shift over time from being desperate to prove herself to thinking more like "this is nuts, there should be better boundaries". But then that wouldn't make as entertaining a book. :P

NA specifically law enforcement nonny

It's really the nature of the beast here. A lot of people are married to the job or enough that you can't really clock out like that. Ya everyone says that investigation is interesting, and it is, I'll give it that, but you can't say no if shit is going down.

And nature of the beast right? Sometimes there's a life at stake or something real valuable to people and then you can't sit back or the crooks will evade you if you sit back.

Mebbe 'tis the life too. You don't stay because the pay is good cause it ent. You stay because you believe you're helping people on some level and that not good if you want to have a life.
