Date: 2021-04-08 10:17 pm (UTC)So I'm an anomaly in that I never watched as a kid and nonnies on FFA were actually what got me into it! I'd thought wrestling was super embarrassing my entire life but then they linked me to an Asuka match (she's a fantastic Japanese wrestler who's now with the WWE and also has a great YouTube channel) and I was in love. The the Golden Lovers storyline got me hooked, and I watched a bunch of stuff from different promotions...IDK, once you "get" wrestling you just get it. It's extremely homoerotic (both m/m and f/f) live improv theater, basically, and while 90% of it is trash, it can be weirdly sublime at its peak.

Date: 2021-04-08 10:31 pm (UTC)Yeah, I was trying to explain to a friend a while back what I liked about it when I was younger because she was just like 'it's ridiculous' and it was like, THAT'S THE POINT! I used to be really into that kind of... hypermasculine camp? Like idk 'DRIVE MONSTER TRUCKS EAT WINGS SHOOT THINGS WITH A PAINTBALL GUN THAT'S ALSO A FLAMETHROWER' but then also playing dressup in these theatrical costumes... So I was trying to explain that it's kind of like a soap opera which is extremely stupid but knows it's extremely stupid and that's part of the fun... ahhhh this is making me want to get back into it xD

Date: 2021-05-27 10:41 pm (UTC)Minor wank today in wrestling fandom as Cody Rhodes (AEW EVP) releases a Pride variant of his signature t-shirt and says money from it will be going to the National Center For Transgender Equality. Except...the flag shown is the basic rainbow flag. So why is the charity a trans-only one? Why didn't he just use the trans flag? (Because he didn't want a pink/blue t-shirt, is my guess.)
So that's MY wank, but other fans are wanking about why it's always CODY who has these charity tees instead of, say...actual LGBT wrestlers in the company. Cody is a cis straight white dude who votes Republican! Why not Nyla Rose (hulking AGP wrestler in the womens' division)? I mean, I can tell you why not Nyla/Brandon - because he doesn't exactly have a pristine social media presence. And why can't one of the gay wrestlers get a Pride tee? Well, because they're not heavily pushed and don't exactly sell a lot of shirts. And why do we have a million variants of Bullet Club shirts, including BLM, but still no rainbow version?
To me this whole thing just shows how insanely propped up the trans movement is right now - like, we basically skipped over gay pride being okay in wrestling and went right to trans campaigning. They are LITERALLY using LGB to prop up and fund the T.
