Naturally skinny, a retired medical professional, and her meddling concern about the weight of the not naturally skinny family members is my least favorite thing about her. I'm an emotional eater, too, and I don't think people who aren't emotional eaters don't understand how hard it is to break that habit. It was easier for me to quit smoking, which I managed to do with no issues decades ago, unlike donuts, which I've been trying to quit for nearly as long.

It kills me that I was a reasonably slender teen for someone who isn't bird-boned (single-digit sizes before serious vanity sizing), but as my mom is bird-boned, I thought I was a whale and failed to appreciate that fact.

Ahh, this is familiar to me. I mean, some details are different (my mother doesn't comment on others' appearance, because my grandmother does and she hates it lol), but she is built on a different plan to me! I also thought I was huge as a teen, when I can remember the figure on the scale (thanks to worrying about it!) so I know I wasn't. But my mother is tall and thin, is the sort of shape clothes shops template "woman" things off, could probably have got a catalogue modelling gig if she'd wanted it, and could just pick things off the rack in a small/medium and they'd fit. Meanwhile I'd be in bigger sizes than her, have to avoid certain cuts because they were designed for a different body shape and would cut off my circulation, etc. And of course when you're a kid, you get more clothes as gifts from family, and there's the awkward "I am 9 years old but I have to buy 'age 14' jeans". Plus my mother would buy me dainty, "feminine" clothes that looked nice on her but ridiculous on me. These days I just find it funny that we're such different shapes, but I was very self conscious at the time.
