Date: 2026-01-25 02:09 am (UTC)Related question: are kumquats ever nice?
Re: Fooooooooooooooooooood
Date: 2026-01-25 04:01 am (UTC)I had some amazing candied kumquats in Japan once, but the ones I can get here are both expensive and sour. Supposedly the peel is the good part but I can't get over the peel texture.

Re: Fooooooooooooooooooood
Date: 2026-02-05 01:45 pm (UTC)OG kumquat-skeptical dan, here. I still have two left, because not only do they suck, but the shop gave me a ridiculous amount. They did actually ripen a bit in the house, though, despite folk wisdom. After some 3 weeks, they're not *good*, but they're edible (and no longer green!). Apparently a kumquat is best eaten all at once. But they have pips! Idk. I considered trying to make a marmaladey thing with them and some cloves and brown sugar, but couldn't be bothered.

Papaya: *is green*
All of the internet: Sunrise papayas are ripe when they're yellow!
Me: *waits for papaya to go yellow*
Papaya: *gets the odd yellow spot*
Papaya: *gets a mouldy spot*
Papaya: *steadily rots and goes yellow at an equal pace*
Me: *cuts mould off and tries papaya*
Papaya: *tastes rubbish*
I dunno.
