I've gotten to the cancer part of the book (both the author's mother _and_ aunt). I have to put the book down for a few days between chapters because I am a wimp when it comes to family members being sick.

There was a really interesting chapter when she describes one of her mom's friends staying for a month+ to take care of her mom while she was going through chemotherapy and how the friend was much better at taking care of her mother than she was. Made her favorite foods, kept her spirits up more, etc. It simultaneously made her and her father feel even more uncomfortable and sad but also start questioning the friend's motives -- but how unbiased could they be about the situation? That humor and self-awareness mixed in with the tragedy is exactly what I expected when I picked up the book.
