Had a read (too lazy to open the email I use for their stuff, but pasted tweets abound!). I'm glad they're taking it seriously, and it should piss off the maoists! :) Amazing (not really amazing) how many twitter people seem to think a charity's formal statement is the place to start apologising to random individuals for this or that. They literally say in the statement they still need to establish what happened. Some people always seem to really want anyone who organises anything to be villains.

Suppose people have spent a week jumping to conclusions and calling them names, so now they'd have to either step back and reflect on if they'd been reasonable... or double down. We know how that always goes. :'D

They've flubbed a lot but idk what they're supposed to do beyond say "we've flubbed a lot and we've reported it to the party that handles it when charities flub things". I'm annoyed at them for bringing their own charity into disrepute and hope they get better on this stuff, and ignore the people who are all "heads must roll!!11"

It makes me so angry because these are women who are actually doing stuff! Making things happen! And all you want to do is suck your teeth and say, “oooo, I wouldn’t have done that” or generally suggest they are all stupid and evil, unlike you who can’t be stupid and evil because you never fucking do anything.

Doing stuff inevitably meaning fucking some stuff up: so be it. It’s better than rotting away making internet drama about how angry you are at the women who do stuff. Yes, I am aware of the irony.

Yeah, like I do think there's a point where the Doing Stuff can be so bad it's actually better to Do Nothing, but I don't think Filia's at that point, and you'd think they'd have built up some goodwill over the years (especially given their willingness to feature women who were getting cancelled EVERYWHERE else)!

But equally I'm annoyed at people who rocked up to the gender ID wars in 2023 and whose variety of Doing Something was just to fuck up a longstanding feminist conference.

And yeah, danspace is where I go to suck my teeth without harassing Organisers Of Things. :P

(But in seriousness, I'm watching how this unfolds because I want to know more about the various women involved. Same way I like to know if someone is a they/them/their so I know to be on my guard with them. A lot of women involved run events, charities; they ask for donations; they take personal details: names, addresses. I like to be careful about which orgs I support and who gets my info.)

(example: I previously had a neutral-positive perception of SBS (didn't know much about them, but they seemed to be doing good work and seemed established doing it, plus they were at filia rather than the fake feminist stuff!). That statement of theirs now makes me think they must have serious governance problems, so now I'll avoid them. Nobody else's comments have led me to that conclusion, just their own confusion about how a charity should act. Others can interpret it all differently, but I think it's useful to dans to share, even if spammy!)

Laughed at those early paragraphs. "We started drama at someone else's event and are Shocked And Appalled that they a) didn't join in and b) asked us to make it clear we were acting without their approval! Also it's their fault people disagreed with us! They should have shielded us!"

Really sounds like they expected the whole room to start cultily chanting along.

As various women have pointed out, Filia have legal duties as a charity not to break equality law and so-on. I can't work out why SBS think Filia had a duty to defend them on twitter for stuff that Filia never okayed them on in the first place.

Afaict Filia had absolutely no responsibility there. Reads like the authors are just copypasting words they've seen other women use elsewhere, which were referring to Filia's *actual* responsibilities under the law.
