(I get odd bursts in which I buy lots of clothes, but then ignore my wardrobe the rest of the time. And I still have to buy SOME clothes, because shoes break, socks wear out, etc. That alone adds up to more than the £10 a month one respondent claims she's spending. :'D)

Added up my own spend for the year-to-date; got approx £1300. Probably forgot some things. My shoes are the biggest portion. So that matches up quite well with the figures given in the article, but 1) year ain't over yet and 2) I'm not a fashionable person. I know people who are into fashion. They do not buy clothes the way I do. Bullshit is any person who is getting interviewed by Marie Claire buying clothes the way I do.

I'm at $510 for the year, but I'm one step removed from 'tech guy who only wears shorts and career fair t-shirts' and I'm overdue to buy new clothes. I'd expect another $300 spent this year, at least.

Yeah, this has been an unusually expensive year for me for clothes; lots of things wore through at the same time, so I had to replace them, and I'd also decided to try to shop more ethically, so items got 10x as expensive (and still not sure it makes a difference or if I'm just falling for Marketing Lies, tbh). But even taking that into consideration, I'm really not a "how many bags do I even own?" kind of person. I don't shop designer. I rewear trousers for weeks. No *way* is the fashion magazine crowd spending less!
