Watched a late night documentary on Arabian desert "kites"-- super ancient massive structures, from maybe 7000 BC, that look a bit like kites from the air (shape too big to be seen from the ground). Documentary had fun drawing out the question "what were they for???" There are loads of them, so my thought was "have to be something useful enough to justify the expense". Spoiler: believed to be used for hunting gazelle. Interesting, though made me wonder if those hunting practices had somehow contributed to desertification in the region. I find it a bit sus that they were ALL in the desert. Though tbf maybe there are more that are not in the desert and they just weren't featured because they're harder to spot.

The kites work on the principle of gazelle following natural lines in their environment; the kites are composed of artificial lines that they treat the same way, and which cause them to run into a trap. So metaphors abound, plus now it looks like all those people painting rainbow crossings and confusing horses are approximately 9000 years behind in their education.
