Yeah. If I'd never peaked (AKA, if ROGD hadn't hit my kid who has since mostly desisted), I'd probably be baffled (he's an oversharer, so I would have thought it would have come up decades ago), but attempting to be supportive, but now I just kind of TERF harder with each middle-aged married straight guy I know who tells me how stunning and brave he is.

I'm pretty bummed about this one, though. Way more than I've been about the others. (I'm also the dan who discovered through LinkedIn recently that her first college boyfriend is now a sensitive ponytail ma'am. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THEM?)

Yeah, I feel like they need a bit of frost if they're ever going to get a clue... but then otoh it seems like everyone says that once they get to the 'my egg cracked' stage, they're already in too deep and that's it, you can stick around to watch their personality disappear or you can distance. So idk if any of them *will* get a clue. I've seen some walk back from she/her to they/them but none in my circles have got back to their old selves. If I thought you had a chance I'd suggest treating it like he was in an abusive relationship with a partner that was trying to isolate him, buuuuut from all the testimony I've seen there's nothing you can do.

I decided a decade ago not to discuss this topic with men I like, because they always reveal how much they don’t really see women (including me) as people, no matter which ‘side’ they are on, and I prefer to live with the delusion that they aren’t like that. I feel this is just the more extreme version of that.

I’m so sorry nona. Distance. I’m assuming you don’t have the kind of relationship where you can laugh and gently mock him for this, or even say, “Look, you know I don’t think that’s how any of this works.” or anything like that, like how you’d talk to a friend who brings up strong religious beliefs you disagree with?

Thanks. We don't hang much these days, thanks to life and family, so it's mostly just social media interactions. We did have the kind of laughing and mocking relationship back when we spent a lot of time hanging, but honestly, dudes who go this route totally lose their ability to make fun of themselves, so I'm thinking lost cause. At least I'll remember him fondly.
