Lol at Weinberg's blog post. It's such a desperate "look! look! im on the Right Side Of History!!!" but he wasn't even confident enough to leave comments on.

I also find it really weird to act like an academic working on a report is somehow automatically aiding whomever commissions the report, unless you're assuming there's no such thing as real academic enquiry. But then I find the whole reaction to Trump odd, because if they believe he's identical to the worst dictators, where was the resistance to him getting in in the first place? Why did they run a candidate with dementia for most of the campaign, and waste all their political capital on dead ends like transactivism? They're acting like they're expecting another election that'll vindicate them, so it seems like they don't really think he's the guy they're portraying him as.

Like, either he *hasn't* got a dictator, in which case his blog post is ridiculous. Or he *has*, in which case his blog post is also ridiculous. If he actually felt threatened by the admin, this isn't how he'd be reacting, cuz it'd be risky and he's not brave enough.

The US left has spent the last few years expertly siphoning off anyone brave to the right or to politically-homeless-land, and installing the most spineless people wherever they can. In the event of a tyrannical dictatorship, absolutely no resistance worth a damn is going to come from the left.

But they're all acting like the cavalry is coming, and they just need to assemble a few artifacts to demonstrate that they are Good People, so they can show them like ID when the nice people come back to take things in hand again. And I'm like "you spent the last few years kicking the cavalry, you idiots." and wondering when the penny's going to drop that they're on their own.

Feels like the left is split between regular true believers, who genuinely think transactivism is the most pressing issue facing the world today and that everything will be fixed if we elect the right people in the midterms, and the actual Democratic party, which is perfectly happy with everything that's happening because it means they can run another year of campaigns off 'at least we're not Trump' instead of coming up with a real platform.

I just don't get the cognitive dissonance with thinking there's going to BE an election and thinking that this guy is the nightmare dictator. They need to choose what they believe because it's inconsistent.

(personally I don't think they really believe they're living in a dictatorship, they're just saying that for rhetorical purposes. But it's like, okay, say you do. Your bold act of resistance is to... write a blog post telling off another philosopher for contributing data about the efficacy of "child transition" to a report??? You're not a bit more concerned that you've got a dictator??? And if you've NOT got a dictator, why you so bothered about your colleague doing his job?

One might almost suspect it's actually a sulk that someone else got asked to take part and JW didn't...)

It's pretty simple. He's the nightmare dictator, but for a lot of these guys, a dictator is just someone in power who doesn't agree with them. They're too high on their own farts to recognize how bad things can really get.
