Have decided to put electrodes on him and measure. Problem: no suitable device. Building a tinfoil contraption now.

Well, I made the circuit. It zaps you with 5V and tells you how much you're resisting. Then it outputs to a pretty graph. But the results are erratic; I think maybe I'd have to take averages over a longer period of time to be able to compare readings in ways that don't just get screwed up by ongoing unrelated fluctuation. He does seem to resist more current than me. I may just have saltier hands. I tried feeling different emotions to see if that caused voltage spikes, and it did seem to correlate with a wave of sadness or anger, but I'm not sure if that was down to another variable (maybe I clench my hands without noticing, or something). To get smoother readings, I suspect I need better electrodes than bits of curled tinfoil. I will have to investigate my options.

I tried further experiments, in an unscientific manner. I tried to get myself on the verge of tears, with and without the circuit attached. Perhaps it was a in my head, but it seemed harder to do with the circuit attached; it felt like it was blocking me. When I detached it, I could shiver with my whole body, get into an imaginary moment and fully feel sadness. With it attached, it seemed like much of the feeling and vividness was gone. It also felt oddly like something was blocking my throat from the base of my skull, though not in any strong way. A bit like having a frog in your throat, but in a way that stops you from crying. I will have to do more experiments, since I'm not sure how much was real, or due to the circuit vs just everyday strange muscular things. I could definitely feel the electricity and I got the impression my body was displeased about being there. :P both contacts were on the same hand, but I could still feel some of it in my neck and head and eye. I tried hopping back and forth to make sure it wasn't just that you feel things more strongly when you first feel them, and it definitely did feel like it was getting in the way and making my throat tense. My mad scientist quest will continue later.

Oh, this would be super easy to test single-blinded if you have a minion. Keep the electrodes attached, but make sure the wires go behind you where you can’t see them. Have minion follow randomised schedule of tests with circuit secretly open or closed, and not confirm any results with you (or whether circuits were open or closed) until the end of all the tests. For extra fun, secretly record for yourself whether you think each test had the circuit open or closed, and again don’t share until the very end of all tests.

Double-blinding would be a bit more involved: you’d have to build something, wouldn’t you?

Reminds me of that one Redditor who thought that everyone else got a burning sensation when they ate this one particular fruit, only for people to tell them that no, they're just allergic to it.
