Date: 2024-09-30 05:31 pm (UTC)I've read almost all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books out of a perverse sense of sunk cost - I started back in 2008 - and I'd only recommend them if you're into trashy romance that hits a very specific intersection of extremely bastardized Greek mythology with not-exactly-vampires, every character loudly claiming they are evil misanthropes but actually being sad misunderstood abuse victims who are whumped in graphic detail, and really complicated family trees where everyone has deadbeat dads and siblings they didn't know about and twin brothers who hate them. Despite my best efforts, my tastes are still in the exact same place they were when I was thirteen, so here I still am.

Date: 2024-09-30 05:37 pm (UTC)She's recovered a lot since then, but she puts so much of herself into all her characters that it's immediately obvious how much the divorce and one of her kids siding against her affected what she wants to write about.

In which danspace re-learns why the fastest way to get humans to do something is to say "Don't, terrible idea."
Alas for human perversity!

Date: 2024-10-01 12:55 am (UTC)Honestly Ilona Andrews is a pretty good cosy read rec for the Dan who's looking for them in that other thread
Re: Books - Whatcha reading?
Date: 2024-10-01 10:20 am (UTC)Sadly I've read her and she doesn't really have what I'm looking for.
