Plants for north-facing? May end up with an unsightly wall (neighbor's garage) that's north-ish facing; wondering if there are roses I can get to climb it; internet suggests some roses are chill with north-facing, but I am skeptical because, in my experience, *nothing* fucking grows north-facing. What thinks meme?

I've half killed a rose with fungus so all I can say is good luck!

I killed a rose by mistakenly thinking it was raining at night when it was just cloudy. I didn't water it and it dried out. It survived multiple bouts of blackspot and was probably quite hardy, so I was pretty sad about it!

Once I saw a guy planting something like twenty rosebushes in an attempt to make a hedge around his lawn. When I went back a year later almost 70% of them were gone, which actually seems like a pretty solid survival rate.

:D Yeah, I feel like roses aren't finicky, exactly, but they're all-or-nothing; they know exactly what they want, and if they can't get it, they won't bother at all. The high-powered anime lawyer of plants.

I get these weird little trees growing all over the dark side of my garden. I *think* they're goat willow. They don't go near the brighter and drier areas. They get everywhere (not sure if they're being planted by the wind or by birds, but I have > 10 and none were planted intentionally), and idk if they're easy to remove or not; I just leave them to it. Not as pretty as roses (they seem to spend most of the year yellow and spotty), but I guess it might be a backup option. :p

For climbing, you probably can’t do better than ivy in the shade. If you want less climby plants, there’s a few that apparantly do okay, but I’ve managed to kill a fern so idk.

I definitely do want climby, but I seem to have the opposite of a green thumb with ivy. Ivy *thrives* round here, but it dies the minute I so much as look at it. I like it, but it doesn't like me. :( tbf I think there's less chance of a neighbor getting sulky about roses than ivy, too.

Bought some herbs in pots! Am sure they are all going to get eaten by spidermites before I can blink, but for now I'm enjoying my whole livingroom smelling of basil. :3

Enjoy the brief moment when you have lots of living plants. I always imagine it will last forever.
