It's one thing if mankind is hunted to extinction by ChatGPT, but I really do object to being executed by Bing.

As a tech dan (also the DYRT), I can confirm that, but I do live in hope that maybe one day, someone will.

(I don't know why I live in hope. I should fucking know better. All telling people the implications of X, Y, or Z does is get you on someone's shitlist. On the other hand, this is why I roll my eyes at most tech conspiracy theories. Guys, we're collectively not smart enough in the industry to pull that shit off. Most of our road to hell was paved with someone in PM or marketing's idea of good intentions.)

+6, if you get to the root of the problem it's just a bunch of midwit dudes who were in the right place at the right time to learn to put commands in a computer, who grew up in a time of relative political stability, who now read an aja essay and think it's profound. Fandom's the upstream of upstream.

Imo what needs to happen is enough of them need to be witchhunted to learn the lessons of old. But that has to happen in such a way that we don't all just give power to the hunters. Tech ppl need a nice little innoculation, nothing more. That's what fiction's for, but unfortunately, stemfolxx don't read.

Coincidentally, I’m going to briefly suggest to a group of children, tomorrow, that if you find yourself in a mob hunting someone down, you’re probably the baddies and you should fade out before anything happens.

:)) Funnily enough I remember every kids' show pointing this out when I was a kid. Seems like it didn't do shit for my generation, but good luck!

This wasn't a tech guy but I felt so much schadenfreude when this happened to Yglesias and he suddenly had to rethink his 'cancel culture is BS' schtick.

Don't have faith in their intellect either. This gen seems to take getting witchhunted as a lesson to go witchhunt better.

Yglesias is much more entertaining now that he's had his eyes somewhat opened by the braying mob. For once, I will honestly thank Emily-whatever-the-last-name-of-the-week-is and Aja for their service in that regard.

I've had to learn so many names of morons in all this, they're blurring together. Whenever I see the name "Emily" these days, I assume it's a man. (Though in this case, I do know which specific dude you mean).

I had a clever nickname for "Emily" at one point that made it clear who I was talking about without me having to remember every single name used in the last five years. Wish I could remember what it was. (I know enough Emilys in my age range that I don't automatically assume that. Evelyns under 70, on the other hand...I have yet to meet an XX one.)

Emily, Sophie, Ada, Luna: for some reason, these are now man names for men. The last one looks like a cat name for a cat, but it's also a man name for men. I don't make the rules, I merely observe them, perplexed.
