Now I’m alert to it, though, I see that fic authors are really into Luke’s lovely yellow jacket at the end of A New Hope, and take it as very significant. This is the only author I’ve seen who’s as into the black T-shirt underneath, though.

But the whole “Luke’s lovely yellow jacket” thing is just me now noticing that lots of fic writers put in some mention of it, and assume significance. In the one I link here, for example, they assume it’s a gift from Han. In other fics, they put in some reference to it being ‘dead man’s clothes’ from a dead rebel, because Luke only had the one set of clothes plus a flightsuit. Or Leia gives it to him, to look joyful for the ceremony. I suppose it is very different to any other clothes we see him pick.

I'm so surprised but I used to not hang out on the OT side of the fandom much minus reading some stuff like uh frodogenic and Kenya Starflight back in the day.

The fact that fandom fixates on Luke's jacket is 100% such a fandom thing it makes me laugh. Thanks for the fic nona. Will be fun to read.

Reading another fic that isn’t amazing, but am enjoying, except the author doesn’t seem to know what a sonic shower is. So she has people say they’re using a sonic shower, and then water comes out and they wash using the water. And then they limit it, because obviously water is in very short supply in this situation: if only they had some way to wash without water. And this comes up a lot.

Given that they have just mentioned a sonic screwdriver in this SW fic, I’m going to guess they think ‘sonic’ means ‘cool tech’.

It’s particularly jarring, because I read some nice fics in the past with Luke’s amazement at using water to shower (so wasteful!) as an adult on more moist planets, and I just absorb that into my vision of Tatooine.

I do remember Shatterpoint stating this. With a nice bit where Mace Windu notes that a sonic shower won't make him feel clean and he wants actual water.

I am not surprised though? I tend to be an EU nerd and I do ! a bit when the new generation of Star Wars fans don't realise flimsi and durasheets are a thing.
