My friend recently complimented a 'fic I recommended her with 'the characterization of the sibling relationship was so good I had to check for an incest tag' and I've been thinking about that all week.

I mean, she's not wrong. But that sure is a way to put it.

Haha, it probably doesn't make sense without context. This particular canon has two brothers whose sibling rivalry is central to their personalities and their character arcs. Unfortunately, one of them is a part of a rarepair that somehow catapulted itself to the position of fandom juggernaut off the power of pure fanon and the other is usually relegated to background ship snark duty there. A lot of people characterize their relationship as antagonistic or indifferent when there's a lot more nuance to it.

Anyways, my friend's hot take is that incest 'fic has the best character studies for those two brothers. At this point I'm inclined to agree.
