It's one thing if mankind is hunted to extinction by ChatGPT, but I really do object to being executed by Bing.

Have listened to the p4 theme a million times, but never until now noticed the cool chromatic bassline!

"What I'm really looking for is something that sounds like the Paprika soundtrack crossed with Kate Bush, sung by the Marina and the Diamonds woman."

Went to a performance by my city's community orchestra, featuring the works of Paganini and those inspired by him. Program:

  1. Paganiniana Op. 65, Alfredo Casella
  2. La Campanella, Nicolo Paganini
  3. Caprice No. 24, Nicolo Paganini
  4. Variations on a Theme by Paganini, Witold Lutoslawski
  5. Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Sergei Rachmaninoff

What I got from this is that Paganini was an ass who liked to make other violinists suffer because they weren't as good as he was.

:) That's the impression I get, and why I like him. I think he was a total showoff who, if he were around today, would have a youtube channel where he shredded and messed around.

Honestly, he'd probably have a TikTok. Are violin challenges a thing? They'd be more productive than whatever the kids are doing these days, at least.

Idk about challenges, but there's jokey meme stuff courtesy of twoset and their lingling40hrs community. Maybe some fans have come up with challenges!

Sounds like fun! (Also wow, respect and condolences to your community orchestra). Here’s another for the Paganini pile:

Composed by Liszt, who was almost as much of a show-off troll on piano as Paganini was with violin. :D

Violin pegs have been slipping thanks to fluctuating temperature. Basically assaulted my violin for half an hour, then stopped acting like a fool and took the peg out, put rosin on, put it back and rewound. Problem instantly solved. Should have done it weeks ago. Why do I always default to literal violince.

Just discovered Runrig. I dislike that it took me so long to learn they existed but at the same time, Iunno that young dan was ready to listen to Runrig given MCR was on the airwaves at that time.

Odd feeling knowing Elton John is bowing out. Feels old, like when ABBA showed up for a while.

Went to another orchestra performance, this one by the city's professional symphony orchestra. Apparently, you can get tickets for cheap if you call up the box office on the day of the show. Program:

  1. Piano Concerto No. 2, Sergei Rachmaninoff
  2. Enigma Variations, Edward Elgar

There was a brief piano solo as an encore - something understated and somber. Couldn't recognize it, but it might've been from a Rachmaninoff prelude.

Pleasantly surprised to see a female conductor. It's always surprising to me how few high-level conductors are women; I spent five years in school with only female conductors so it imprinted on me as a woman's job when clearly, the rest of society thinks otherwise.
