"The thing about illegally breeding fire-breathing possums is that you gotta keep a bucket of water handy."

*Those fools! Fire-breathing possums are greasy; water will only feed the flames! Oh, if only I could tell them of my empire...*

I find that with all writing or being at a screen, a bit. There's writing me and verbal me, and if I spend a while in writing mode, I get more out-of-the-world, and take a while to get pulled back in. Otoh I'm naturally pretty out-of-the-world, and spend a lot of time simulating things or thinking in abstracts, which is why I got into writing in the first place. I like the high.

Though with the fandom!trans thing, personally I think it's more because in fandom you have to make a conscious effort about how to present yourself to other fans, and you get control over all of it. I was thinking the other day about how on tumblr people set up their blogs to try to look individual (but then most just pick different sexuality flag colours, lol). You pick a profile pic, but you also pick a tone when writing, choose what to say, what to omit, etc. Just encourages people to constantly think about how they're presenting themselves, while giving them some invisibility compared to irl.

Like, I don't think it's a coincidence that the industries where it's popular are the ones where you have to craft a public persona, have An Image etc. (Maybe a bit because of overlap with those jobs and being in creative spaces where it's already popular, but still think it's more about having a public-facing lifestyle.)
