"The thing about illegally breeding fire-breathing possums is that you gotta keep a bucket of water handy."

*Those fools! Fire-breathing possums are greasy; water will only feed the flames! Oh, if only I could tell them of my empire...*

Oh ok reached the bit where it's throwing the term "fascist" around, immediately followed with "it's hard not to empathise with them". Say what? You're projecting fascist onto them and then getting *that*?

"McGregor’s portrayal possesses a roguish charm that turns these flaws into an alluring depth."

Mate, Ewan McGregor CANNOT ACT, and he plays the part like a lump of wet cardboard; wtf are you talking about.

"Would Kenobi approve of his likeness being used in total opposition of his beliefs? While Palpatine would be indifferent, perhaps even delighted at young men celebrating him en masse, Kenobi would certainly feel uneasy at the prospect, at the very least. Most likely, he would applaud the politics of The Last Jedi"

Stop kinning obi wan mid essay

This is actually turning out worse than I thought it would be from the first few paragraphs; impressive feat!

"It begs the question: do these geek communities just read into their source material selectively, finding the politics they can agree with and use, or are geek pop culture media as a whole particularly suitable to be made into memes, because of their politics?"

Well in the case of that essay, looks like both; reddit sub drama is "particularly suitable" as a subject for the essay because it must be all the writer knows about, and the writer has read whatever the fuck they wanted into it. Maybe it's a parody piece with a lampshade ending; if so, points for subtlety.

(I assume they're mad because they like the newer films, that sub doesn't, and so they are resorting to leaning on the presumed views of the fictional obi wan kenobi to defend their stance? Classic symptoms of Too Much Internet.)
