"The thing about illegally breeding fire-breathing possums is that you gotta keep a bucket of water handy."

*Those fools! Fire-breathing possums are greasy; water will only feed the flames! Oh, if only I could tell them of my empire...*

A little under halfway through. This is a doctor memoir, similar in subject-matter to Being Mortal (though better-writtem, if a bit showy; this author was a journalist who retrained as a doctor so sometimes reads as a bit too flashy, but tempered by her seeming to be not a particularly flashy person). Mostly focusing on the human side of medical care (author works in palliative care), discusses the desensitisation of doctors a bit, makes a good counterpoint to Adam Kay (this one is less frantic). Despite having read/seen a lot on this subject I'm finding this interesting and enjoying how much of a picture of herself she puts on the page, as an anxious overachiever. Also really like the cover. (Maybe there are more around; I have one with floral lungs and gold type) Reviews from this nonny are weird, aren't they? :P

Still enjoying, especially the humour. Only thing I'm a bit wary of is how many anecdotes are quite self-congratulatory. On the one hand, I get why you'd congratulate yourself if you went against orders and thus made the right decision in a medical context. Otoh, I'm a suspicious type, and don't trust anyone who paints themselves in a good light. :p (or a bad light. Or any light.)
