Had a few more sweets.

Everlasting Gobstopper

Some small hard round things in a yellow box. There's no mistaking one of these for an everlasting gobstopper, given they are small and take a few seconds to eat. They're nothing like those massive gobstoppers you can get at the seaside that are the size of golfballs and can last you a whole holiday. The ones which hang around on your bedside table in a manner reminiscent of Homer Simpson's sandwich, as your family winces in disgust. No, these ones are soon gone. BUT they taste nice. This is the first decent sweet and I would actually buy it. It tastes like something else I'm already familiar with, though I can't think what.

Crybaby Gum

Advertises itself as extra sour. Is not remotely sour. Friend disagrees. I had blue flavour, they had yellow flavour. I assume blue is blue raspberry and yellow is lemon. That may explain the difference in opinion, anyway, or it may just be that my friend is a sensitive soul. There's a picture of some guy choking, on the packet, and the balls of gum inside are oddly moist. Once you've eaten the not-sour coating, you're left with some gum that inexplicably tastes of smoked bacon. I have no idea why it tastes of bacon, but it made me wonder if Americans get a culture shock when they go abroad and the gum does *not* taste of bacon. That would get to me. It's bubblegum, but there's not enough gum per ball to blow good bubbles, as always with bubblegum. Bubbletape ftw.

Airheads Watermelon

This is a dark green, and when torn in two, looks blue at the edge. It tastes almost okay. There's a niceish watermelon flavour, followed by graininess and mould. Would not buy, but it didn't kill me.

Airheads Grape

This is a dullish grey-purple colour. It smells nice. It tastes like paint fumes. We wondered if we were gonna get a hangover eating it. Maybe good if you are working on the trans-siberian railway and need something to numb the senses; best avoided otherwise.

Bottlecaps

This is a tube of sweets, like a pack of Lovehearts. They taste similar, though not as good. They're not *bad* on the whole (though "root beer" tastes like medicine), but the sweet-to-tangy balance is slightly off, so they're too sweet and not tangy enough. I wouldn't buy them but they were quite nice.

This will just be the american grape problem, won’t it? When I visited America and tried Welch’s grape juice, I spat it out and assumed the plasticisers from the bottle had leached into it. Turns out, that’s just what american grapes taste like. It’s nothing like french grape juice.

I have never tried American grape and now I'm terrified.
