I feel of two minds about this. I'm definitely a fan of separating the work from the author and I feel that a failure to do so leads us to the purity inquisitions we have now, at least in terms of impulses and assumptions.

But tbh life is too short for me to usually want to cape for authors who are gonna be shit people because T E R F

This is it, it's not that I think they're doing something morally wrong, it's more like I'm surprised they don't have more self-respect. Which I realise sounds haughty AF. :P But like if someone's all "punch a terf today!!" then I don't want their name on my dash and I'm not gonna boost their fic; it's like doing a favour for someone while they call you names; fine, no favours for you! I think it can also give others the impression you agree but that's not worth caring about because yeah, purity spirals.

I mean I know my own preference is pretty far over, in that if someone even posts that pastel flag, I'm likely to avoid them, but if someone's actively talking shit about you I really don't get wanting to help them with anything.

Not too far off mine. I'm enough of a curmudgeon now I don't really have patience for genderwoo stuff in writing, let alone amplifying these authors.

Oh I agree with you, nona! My thoughts were more a recognition that in practice, my advocating not bothering with people who are going to be shit about you will, when writ large, look like just another fandom purity spiral.

But I don't think that's enough to convince me to give them the ammo—life's too short, CBA.
