Post about fandom! Or whatever! Whether it's a rave about some obscure series, or an essay dissecting every last reason why some internet-famous author should rethink their career, someone will probably read it at some point! We also just chat about life.

I'll be doing Huntinality 2.0 (run by Team Cardinality) later this month! https://www.huntinality.com/

Laughed a bit at the intentionally shitty startup vibe they have for their theme. This one's built for teams of eight people (team size raised due to hunt difficulty), but there's a casual track that might make it fairly accessible for soloists and new puzzle hunters. As usual, I'll (hopefully) do a writeup after the hunt finishes.

Hunt's over, time for the writeup! As usual, my post will contain spoilers for story and metapuzzles.

For this hunt, we were tasked with beta testing the Huntinality 2.0 website. Like any startup, the first round was full of Web 2.0 buzzwords like blockchain, machine learning, bugcats, and speech recognition; like any startup, the final goal of their work is to disrupt the internet.

Which we did, quite literally. There's even a cutscene. https://www.huntinality.com/story/disrupt

Disrupting the internet brought us back in time to the good ol' Web 1.0 days - you know, when everyone was using marquee tags and rainbow text and no one had figured out how to remove underlining from links. We had to complete another three rounds of puzzles to find the past contact information for the startup's CFO, CTO, and COO, then hack into their accounts to find clues on how to bring ourselves back to the present. In the end, the solution was simple - we just had to build a wayforward machine.

I really liked this hunt! The theming was really cute and the puzzles were just the right degree of difficulty for my team. We did have some issues with the CFO round in particular - we actually solved every other puzzle before getting a single one in the CFO round! If anyone here wants to check them out, I'd recommend looking at the puzzles with the 'casual' track filter applied because they provide some clues and flavortext that really helps you get started. A few of my favorites -

Me, Myself, & I. One common puzzle style is the 'identify and index' type - you're given a bunch of clues you need to identify (i.e. crossword-style), and then you take the letter in that clue at some given index to spell out an answer. This one's a really straightforward example of that with very clear clues and hinting; would recommend for beginners.
Bugcat. I love bugcat! This one's not exactly an identify-and-index puzzle, but it's a beginner-friendly one with very cute art.
Chaos In Neopia. Another fake meta-puzzle, where you use a word bank to solve multiple subpuzzles. I didn't enjoy this one a ton, but Neopets was a big part of my childhood and it was really fun to see a Neopets-themed one.
'True' Friends. Another cute Web 1.0-themed puzzle with a really fun 'trick' to it. Should be pretty self-explanatory from the title.
Refreshment Counter. I like these 'unfolding' puzzles where it's not super obvious what to do with it at first, but it becomes more clear as you gather more information. There was a similar one a few hunts ago that also had pages changing upon refresh.

Next hunt I'll do will probably either be REDDOT next month or Galactic in August. We'll see.

I'm not one for puzzle hunts, but that one sounds really creative and fun! I'm also laughing at the meta framing of "hack into the accounts of startup executives" because yes please. Thanks for sharing, nonny!
