Only quiet or clever judgement, please, but I was really enjoying an AU Avengers fic in a universe where Tony Stark is an android terrorist working to free other AIs. But then, a purple-haired female-coded android is referred to as "the violette".

Is this better or worst than "blunette"? I feel like there's at least more wordplay involved in "blunette".

Why? What goes through your head when you write "The violette"? Do you imagine that you are being very clever, and every one will stop in the middle of your emotional scene to marvel at your descriptive skills? Are you imagining that everyone will decide, "Ah, this is worldbuilding, and in this futuristic universe colourful hair is so common that people have common words like this, and the semi-limited narrator is reflecting this"? Do you imagine that it is a natural bit of writing, that people will just skim over and absorb? ARE YOU IN SOME CIRCLES WHERE THIS IS COMMON LANGAGE?!

The endless descriptive epithets instead of names is already an annoyance I have learnt to accept in fic, but surely there are limits?

I feel like important context here is that Tony is looking over a load of android corpses, and noting that the corpse of "the violette" is missing an eye. So, a jarring moment for wordplay.

Also, in the next paragraph, a pink-haired android is described as "the rosette".

WHY?!

Totally stealing those terms to use in a lighthearted context, though. :P

(My guess is the author just searched "what do you call a purple-haired person?" and didn't question what they found)

Honestly nona, read this as "the violent" for a while and was superbly confused, which is probably another strike against the epithet! But I'm also tired of people who keep saying "the dimunitive Jedi Master."

I know you all say this once in a while but ffs he has a name. It's fucking Yoda. Use it.
