My theory is that the general age of fandom has dropped, fandom is now done on 'mainstream' social media and there's a sad lack of 18+ spaces. Immature women have an easier time finding each other, creating toxic friend groups, and harassing + manipulating easy targets.

Sadly, many of the worst offenders have been doing this for at least a decade and do not have the excuse of youth. They're just nasty, manipulative, self-righteous grown-ass adults.

True, when I think of examples I think of people in their 30s and 40s. I think twitter has damaged their brains, but still.

This might be a language thing. By 'immature' I mean individuals not fully developed emotionally, and therefore more likely to engage in destructive behaviour towards other people, regardless of actual age.

The older ones are helped by the high amount of young people, as youth are more easily manipulated into black-white thinking, and more likely to not be fully mature in their treatment of other people.
